Companion the app for your safety can be used with anyone in your contacts and on the other hand those friends are not required to use the app at all. Now when you are going somehow unsafe pin point the starting and destination in the app. Now the app and the software will track your progress that means until you don't reach your destination it will be asking periodically "Are you Ok ?" on the screen. If you do not press the button just with in 15 seconds it will automatically notify your designated companion like your friends and family.

In case you start running, or that your headphones have been taken out of the smartphone headphone jack, just from then the app will starts it countdown before contacting your friend or family members. If you do not tap on you are ok to YES it will simply contact your friends and family.
If you are university student the app also comes with the ability to report areas around campus that you feel could be safer by allowing you to select an I Feel Nervous option when in that area. The makers of Companion will contact the authorities of your university if they get any such report from you.
