There have been some rumors and speculations that Apple will launch iPad 3 or iPad 2 Pro with Retina Display in 2011, despite the launch of iPad 2 earlier in the year.

WSJ reports that according to "people familiar with the situation":
The next generation iPad is expected to feature a high resolution display - 2048 by 1536 compared with 1024 by 768 in the iPad 2 - and Apple's suppliers have already shipped small quantities of components for the sampling of the iPad 3. Suppliers said Apple has placed orders for a 9.7-inch screen device.
Wall Street Journal also reports that Apple will start trial production of iPad 3 in October this year.
The possibility of Apple launching another iPad this year was very speculative in the first place. It all started with John Gruber of Daring Fireball who has a good track record when it comes to Apple rumors, speculating that Apple is planning to launch the third generation iPad in September this year. We have also discovered evidence of iPad 3 in the beta versions of iOS 5 that have been seeded to developers of iOS Developer program.
We've always maintained that is unlikely that iPad 3 will be released this year as Steve Jobs had categorically stated that “2011 is the year of iPad 2”.
So if you've been holding off buying an iPad 2 due to these rumors and speculations, you can probably get one now rather than waiting for another six months for iPad 3.
