When the question comes up as how to increase traffic to your website, it has to be understood there are no shortcut methods available. Increasing your website traffic requires a carefully thought-out strategy that must be planned to perfection. There are several methods that can be adopted for increasing web traffic, but not all cases are the same and what works well for one blog, may not work the same way for another. Therefore, apart from some of the standard processes that are inevitable for traffic generation, it is mostly a game of tweaking other processes individually and monitoring the results to see if that brings desired results.
Two basics for attracting traffic
One of the foremost requirements in getting traffic to your website or blog is to host it directly on your own domain. By keeping your blog on a domain different from your primary site, is one of the worst blunders that you can possibly make. A blog or your website on your own domain is in a better position to attract publicity, attention, trust, links and search rankings. At worst, you can host it on a sub-section on your own domain, in a page or a sub-folder.
Your Title Tags should be written with two target audiences in mind. The first target audience will be the people who visit your site or are subscribed to your feed. For attracting target audience, your title tags will have to be on-topic, catchy, short and snappy. Next, you will also want your title tags to be found by the search engines, since this will augment the traffic to your blog. Therefore, after writing the content and the title, look for keywords and key-phrases relevant to the subject of the blog and title. Incorporating these keywords will help you to better orient the site or page to your target audience through the search engines.
Fish for your traffic
Tag your posts, pointing directly to the Technorati searches. It would benefit to have the tags right on your page. Tagging your content can also be beneficial in getting traffic from the bigger sites like StumbleUpon, Digg and Reddit. You may not want to submit all your blogs to these sites. Indeed, sending many posts to these sites could end up generating pushbacks and negative opinions, however, one in twenty posts would be a decent figure to be treated as a linkbait. Of course, the process of linkbaits has always been one of trial and error, but the process is made simpler if your blog has a popular content.
A linkbait 'bump', however, has to be capitalized on. By hitting on the front page of Digg, or StumbleUpon, you are likely to get a good traffic to your website. As long as this website traffic lasts, you will need to show off your talents as a writer with a couple of high quality posts. If your blog content is not changed or updated for about two days after receiving a big influx of visitors, you have not made use of the linkbait 'bump' offered to you, and your effort to increase traffic is only temporary.
