The new Skype 5.4 for mac has lot more features like video call control bar and HD-Quality video calling. As it is similar to the windows version of Skype 5.5 you will have all the features like windows version of Skype.
If you like to use the new Facebook integration, you just need to Click link to Facebook button from your Skype home screen and just log in or sign in with your Facebook details. Once you are signed in , the Skype Home tab will display all your recent news feeds and recent activity from your Skype contacts. You will also able to update your status using an input bar at the top of the home screen. You will also have option for linking and commenting and also you will able to contact with your contacts directly using a phone icon located next to their names.(if their number is listed in Facebook or they are on Skype already) you will able to call instantly. If it is not then you will be prompted to enter it manually. Both options require that you have a paid Skype subscription or Skype credit to work with it.
I must say that the new Facebook integration is really nice because the news feed works nice in Skype application window. The ability to quickly call friends based on news they post to the social network is a very smart option included. For example : if one of my friend get a new job and posted in his status and i get the news in the Skype updates so i could directly call him without just posting a message congrats or tapping the like button. Your Facebook friends will also now show up in your general contacts list when you are signed in and you will able to send them install message directly you would your usual Skype friends.But as Skype has announce that Skype video chat to Facebook website in July, there is not way to directly video call your online Facebook contacts in this version. You can initiate a Skype call if your Facebook friends have Skype contact info listed on their profile and then option to turn it into a video call should pick up , but that is as far as video calling integration goes. I do hope in future Skype will design on making it more easy to video chat directly between Skype and Facebook in the future releases.
As most of the Facebook new features are welcome and smartly designed , but there are still few bugs that i have found in the new beta version of Skype for mac, for example : initiating calls from the contacts list with Facebook friends to their mobile number doesn't seem to actually connect. There is also a draw back for non subscribers and people who did not pay for Skype credits. Skype is showing ads in front of users who only access the free aspects of its service. So if you are not terribly fond of the idea of Facebook integration and you are happy with Skype free service , you might want to hold off on this update. But still if you are user of the both programs Facebook and Skype you can use this update for more features and function.
